Listeria Risk Forces Recall of Hard Boiled Eggs at Walmart, Costco, Kroger
Dec. 30, 2019 - A massive recall of hard boiled eggs is expanding to include Eggland's Best eggs, according to a recall notice [1] issued Dec. 23 by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). The recalled eggs were sold at grocers nationwide and online, FDA said.
All products were distributed by Almark Foods and produced at their facility in Gainesville, Georgia. Officials say Listeria monocytogenes found in samples collected from the plant during FDA inspections are a genetic match to the outbreak strain.
The recalled hard boiled eggs have "Best If Used By Dates" through March 2, 2020. Click on the link to view a complete list of products affected by the egg recall [2].

Listeria Monocytogenes Symptoms
Signs and symptoms of a listeria food poisoning infection, or listeriosis, include:
- Fever
- Chills
- Headache
- Upset stomach
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
While anyone can get listeriosis, those at the highest risk include pregnant women, their unborn babies, elderly people, and individuals who have a weakened immune system. About 1,600 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with a listeria infection each year, but the actual number of people who develop the illness is likely much higher, as most who get it never seek medical attention, according to the Cleveland Clinic [3].
