What’s the Problem?
September 19, 2016 – According to the lawsuit, 28-year-old Jonathan Strobel was at Costco in Palm Beach Garden, Florida, a week ago when his Samsung Galaxy caught fire. Strobel suffered deep 2nd degree burns to his thigh, and 1st degree burns on his fingers after attempting to remove the smartphone from his pocket, according to the complaint.
Last month, Samsung announced that it was voluntarily recalling about 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 phones [1] due to a potential battery defect that can result in fires. However, Strobel’s lawsuit claims that Samsung should have been faster to order a recall, and that the action should be mandatory instead of voluntary.
The complaint was filed against Samsung Electronics America and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., claiming the companies should’ve never brought the Galaxy Note 7 to market knowing there was a problem with the batteries that could cause a fire. Strobel is seeking compensation to pay for medical bills, future treatments and lost wages. He hopes to bring more attention to the Samsung Galaxy defect, and wants people to know others have been injured and that the device should have been recalled sooner.
