Latest Houswise Fire Pit Lawsuit Updates

July 16, 2026: CPSC Warns Consumers About Houswise Fire Pits

The CPSC issued a warning on fire pits sold by Houswise. The CPSC warning told consumers to stop using them immediately and to dispose of them [1]. It covers the Vesper, Altair, Quad and Astra models. At least 53,500 units were sold since March 2023. No filed Houswise case is verified, and the JPML pending MDL list shows no Houswise MDL [2].

December 19, 2024: CPSC Issues Alert on Alcohol Fire Pits

The CPSC issued Consumer Alert 25-074 on alcohol and other liquid-burning fire pits that violate voluntary standard ASTM F3363-19 [3]. The standard aims to prevent pool fires and flame jetting. CPSC said two deaths and at least 60 injuries since 2019 have been associated with fire pits of this type. The alert covers the whole category, not only Houswise.

What Is a Houswise Fire Pit?

According to the CPSC warning, Houswise Tabletop Fire Pits are rectangular, round or square containers that use liquid fuel. CPSC lists Furmia LLC as the manufacturer, and the fire pits were sold online. Houswise says its fire pits are designed for bio ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, and it recommends its own brand of bio ethanol fuel [4]. It says other fuels, such as wood or pellets, can pose safety risks.

Who May Be Affected?

People who bought a Houswise Vesper, Altair, Quad or Astra tabletop fire pit since March 2023 and were burned may be affected. The fire pits were sold on Houswise.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com and other websites. Relevant circumstances include burns when pooled or spilled alcohol burned across a surface, or when fuel leaked outside the fire pit. The December 19, 2024 alert adds burns while pouring or refilling liquid fuel. Qualification for a claim requires an individual legal review, because eligibility depends on your own facts. Burns from other liquid-fuel fire pits are covered in our guide to alcohol-burning fire pit claims.

Reported Injuries or Damages

CPSC counts more than two dozen reports of flame jetting, fuel leaking outside of the fire pit and unexpectedly high flames. They resulted in seven injuries, including third-degree burns. These are agency incident reports. They are not court allegations, and reports alone do not prove that the fire pit caused each burn. CPSC describes the hazard in its warning as uncontrolled pool fires, where flames burn across the surface of pooled or spilled alcohol. In the category-wide December 19, 2024 alert, CPSC said isopropyl alcohol and other liquid fuels burn at flame temperatures over 1,600°F. It said they can cause third degree burns in less than one second. The same alert says igniting a pool of liquid fuel in an open container creates an uncontrollable pool fire. The pool fire can suddenly produce larger, hotter flames that spread beyond the fire pit.

Recall and Regulatory Background

The July 16, 2026 CPSC action is a warning and not a recall. CPSC says Furmia LLC has not agreed to recall these products or offer a remedy to consumers. A warning is a regulator statement. It is not a court finding and does not establish liability. For other brands, see our page on tabletop fire pit recalls.

Evidence to Preserve

Keep these items safe after a burn from a Houswise fire pit:
  • Photographs of the fire pit, including its model name, the burner opening and the fuel container.
  • The fuel you used and its original packaging, if you still have them.
  • Purchase records, such as the order confirmation or receipt from Houswise.com, Amazon.com or Walmart.com.
  • Photographs of the burns and of the scene where the fire happened.
  • Medical, burn-center and billing records covering every visit, treatment and follow-up appointment.
  • Communications with the seller or manufacturer, and any CPSC or SaferProducts.gov report you filed.

Filing Deadlines

Deadlines for filing an injury claim come from state law. They depend on where you live and when the injury happened. In some states, the deadline starts when the injury was discovered. Even a claim with strong facts can end if the deadline passes, so speak with a lawyer promptly if a fire pit burned you.

Potential Compensation

Compensation amounts vary by case. Past results do not guarantee future outcomes. If a claim succeeds, potential compensation in burn-injury cases may include medical expenses. Examples are emergency care, burn-center treatment, surgery and skin grafting, rehabilitation and scar treatment. Damages may also cover lost income, and pain and suffering.

Frequently Asked Questions

Did CPSC Recall Houswise Fire Pits?

CPSC did not recall Houswise fire pits. It issued Product Safety Warning 26-615 about the fire pits, and the agency says the manufacturer has not agreed to a recall or a remedy for consumers.

Can You Sue over a Houswise Fire Pit Burn?

You may be able to sue over a Houswise fire pit burn, but only a lawyer can say whether your facts support a claim. CPSC’s warning does not decide that, and the filing deadline depends on where you live.

What Does the Research Say About Flame Jetting on a Tabletop Fire Pit?

Flame jetting on a tabletop fire pit is when flames erupt from containers of liquid fuel, according to CPSC’s December 19, 2024 alert. It can occur when refilling a liquid-burning fire pit if any flame is present, even one that is hard to see.

What Should I Do with a Houswise Fire Pit?

CPSC urges consumers to dispose of their Houswise fire pit. It also says not to sell or give away these hazardous products, so a fire pit should not be passed on to anyone else.

How Can I Report a Houswise Fire Pit Burn to CPSC?

You can report a Houswise fire pit burn to CPSC on SaferProducts.gov or by calling the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772. CPSC asks consumers to report an injury or an unsafe product through either channel.

Has Houswise Settled Any Fire Pit Claims?

Whether Houswise has settled fire pit claims is not on the public record: no settlement involving Houswise fire pits has been announced. No Houswise class action or regulator action in Canada, the United Kingdom or Europe appears on the public record either.
