July 2, 2026: CPSC Announces AMASKY Nursing Pillow Recall

CPSC announced a recall of 4,008 AMASKY nursing pillows (recall number 26-596) that violate the mandatory standards for nursing pillows and infant support cushions. No incidents were reported [1]. The pillows were sold on Amazon from January 2026 through March 2026 for between $24 and $30. Buyers get a full refund after they cut the pillow in half and send a photo to the seller, Pretty-Life, at 888-820-0881.

March 16, 2026: CPSC Drops Its Case Against Leachco

The Commission vacated the July 3, 2024 initial decision and dismissed its complaint against Leachco over the Podster infant lounger. The CPSC docket page shows administrative closure on April 29, 2026 [2]. January 22, 2026: CPSC Warns About Infant Self-Feeding Pillows

The Tenth Circuit affirmed the dismissal of a proposed class action against The Boppy Company, Hudson v. The Boppy Co., LLC, No. 24-1322 [4]. It held lead plaintiff Jowanna Hudson lacked standing because her 2018 purchase came before the website statements she called misleading. She alleged breach of warranties and unjust enrichment.

May 29, 2025: CDC Reports on Nursing Pillows and Infant Deaths

CDC published an MMWR report on nursing pillows and sudden unexpected infant deaths in Georgia. A nursing pillow was in the sleep space in 84 of 1,685 cases from 2013 through 2022 [5]. June 6, 2023: CPSC and Boppy Warn About Recalled Loungers

The deaths occurred between December 2015 and June 2020. Infants reportedly suffocated after being placed on their back, side or stomach on the lounger. Boppy said it was not marketed as a sleep product.

According to the CPSC, an infant support cushion is “an infant product filled with or comprised of resilient material.” The CPSC adds that it is marketed, designed or intended to support an infant’s weight while reclining [13]. Who May Be Affected?

Infants who used, or were placed to sleep on, a nursing pillow, infant lounger or similar pillow-like product may be affected. Recalled Boppy Newborn Loungers were sold from January 2004 through September 2021 for between $30 and $44. Boppy loungers were sold at juvenile product stores and mass merchandisers nationwide and online, including Pottery Barn Kids, Target, Walmart and Amazon.com. In 56% of the 84 Georgia deaths involving a nursing pillow, the infant was in an adult bed, according to the CDC’s report. Whether a family has a claim depends on the facts and needs an individual legal review.

Reported Injuries or Damages

Reports describe suffocation and positional asphyxia deaths, plus falls and entrapment. In 124 of the 154 deaths in the rule record (81%), a pillow was used in or on a sleep product. In that record, 144 of the 154 deaths (94%) were infants 6 months old and younger. Reports do not prove cause. The CPSC said in 2021 that pillow-like infant products are not designed for sleep. That includes nursing pillows and lounging pads, which it said are not safe for sleep [14]. It knows of no clinical or scientific evidence that baby products reduce the chance of SIDS. An NBC News investigation counted 162 infant deaths associated with nursing pillows since 2007 [16].
