July 17, 2025: CPSC Announces Recall of VIVI E-Bike Batteries

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall on July 17, 2025, according to the recall notice [1]. The recall covers about 24,000 VIVI e-bikes’ 36-volt lithium-ion batteries.

The recalled batteries can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards, and VIVI is offering an at-no-cost battery and charger swap. CPSC has logged 14 reports of overheating, including three fires, with no injuries reported.

Which VIVI E-Bikes Are Affected?

VIVI recalled 15 e-bike models, each paired with specific battery models, grouped below by shared battery family:

  • Model C26’s recalled battery models include WT0261 and EB3608C0B, among others in this recall.
  • Model MT20 was sold with battery model WT0261, SKD014 or ZBL-36V10.4Ah LH.
  • Model Z3 uses only one recalled battery, model TCRFD111005YY, and no other.

Why Were the VIVI E-Bikes Recalled?

VIVI e-bikes were recalled because their 36-volt lithium-ion batteries can overheat, creating a risk of fire and burns for riders and anyone nearby.

The batteries were not certified to UL standards. UL is the most common safety standard for e-bike batteries in the US, according to Electrek’s reporting on the recall [2].

VIVI’s recall follows several consumer reports of the 36-volt batteries overheating, including reports that some caught fire. The CPSC’s recall notice describes these reports.

The recall applies to e-bikes sold in the United States. The CPSC notice does not list a separate count of units sold outside the country, so the units figure above covers the US market only.

Reported Incidents, Injuries, or Illnesses

VIVI has told the CPSC it is aware of 14 reports of its recalled batteries overheating, including three reports of fires. The recall notice states no injuries have been reported.

These reports came directly from VIVI. They do not necessarily reflect every overheating incident among the roughly 24,000 recalled e-bikes. Reports alone are not proof that every affected battery is defective.

Anyone who experienced an overheating battery, a fire or property damage involving a VIVI e-bike can report the incident to VIVI or the CPSC.

The CPSC accepts these reports through its online complaint system. This is separate from requesting the recall’s free replacement remedy.

What Should Consumers Do?

Owners of a recalled VIVI e-bike should take the following steps:

  1. Stop using the e-bike immediately if its battery matches one of the recalled models.
  2. Contact VIVI toll-free at 800-375-6103 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET) or online at viviebikes.com/pages/recall to request a free replacement battery and charger.
  3. Do not throw the recalled battery in the trash, curbside recycling or a battery-recycling box. Damaged lithium-ion batteries can catch fire in regular waste streams.
  4. Take the recalled battery to a household hazardous waste collection center instead. Call ahead to confirm the center accepts recalled lithium-ion batteries.
  5. Email vivirecall@163.com once the battery has been disposed of, so VIVI can confirm the disposal was completed properly.
  6. Report a non-responsive remedy request to the CPSC if VIVI does not provide the promised replacement within a reasonable time.

VIVI has not been sued over this battery recall. No multidistrict litigation has formed either. The JPML‘s pending-MDL dockets list, dated April 1, 2026, has no VIVI or e-bike entry [3].

Several law firms are investigating potential claims tied to the recalled batteries. A recall does not automatically establish liability or eligibility for compensation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where Were VIVI E-Bikes Sold?

VIVI e-bikes with the recalled batteries were sold online at several retailers: amazon.com, walmart.com, ebay.com, viviebikes.com, wish.com, sears.com, wayfair.com and aliexpress.com. They were sold from December 2020 through November 2023, priced between $365 and $950, according to the CPSC’s recall notice.

Can I File a Lawsuit over a VIVI E-Bike Battery Fire?

You cannot yet file a lawsuit over a VIVI e-bike battery fire as a formal case, since none has been filed. An individual claim may still be possible. Filing deadlines vary by state law and by when the fire or damage occurred, so consult a lawyer promptly.

How Do I Know If My Battery Model Is Recalled?

You can tell if your battery model is recalled by checking the model number on your sales order. For e-bikes sold in 2022 and after, the number is on the bike frame. Compare it to the 15 recalled models above. Each battery’s own model number is printed on its casing.

Does the Recall Cover the Whole E-Bike or Just the Battery?

The recall does not cover the whole e-bike. It covers only the battery and charger sold with certain VIVI e-bikes. The recall notice does not ask owners to return or dispose of the e-bike itself. See the remedy steps above for what to do next.

Does VIVI Cover Return Shipping for the Recalled Battery?

The recall notice does not say whether VIVI covers return shipping costs for the recalled battery. If shipping fees matter to you, ask about them when you contact VIVI to arrange your free replacement.

Who Manufactures VIVI E-Bikes?

VIVI e-bikes are manufactured by Guangzhou Plenty Bicycle Co., Ltd. and distributed by Shenzhen Binxin Household Co., Ltd., doing business as VIVI E-bikes, both based in China, per the CPSC’s recall filing.
