Vitamix Ascent and Venturist blending containers have been recalled over a laceration hazard. The recall was expanded in June 2024 to about 569,000 units after reports of cuts when hands touched the blades.
As of October 2026, no pending Vitamix injury lawsuit or MDL exists. A separate class settlement over black PTFE flecks in blender seals has a claim deadline that passed on September 28, 2018. Vita-Mix denies any defect in that case.

Consumer Reports said Vitamix expanded its recall (24-276) of Ascent and Venturist blending containers and blade bases [1]. The recall now covers about 569,000 units, including the 105,000 from the earlier recall. Another 121,950 were sold in Canada.
September 28, 2018: Vita-Mix Settlement Claim Deadline Passes
TODAY reported that the claim deadline in the Vita-Mix class settlement was September 28, 2018 [2]. Owners had to file an online claim form or mail in a printed claim.
A company spokesperson told Consumer Reports that the Venturist, Ascent and Explorian series were not part of the settlement, so the later parts recall is a separate matter.

CPSC announced recall 18-202 on August 9, 2018. It covered about 105,000 Ascent and Venturist blending containers, plus about 5,300 more in Canada [3]. Sales ran from April 2017 through July 2018.
January 8, 2018: TODAY Reports a Preliminary Class Settlement
TODAY reported a preliminary class settlement by Vita-Mix Corporation. It covered blenders made between January 1, 2007 and October 1, 2016. Eligible owners could file a claim for relief.
Plaintiffs said the blenders were worth less because of black PTFE flecks from top seals. Vita-Mix denies any defect, and says plaintiffs suffered no losses or injuries.
What Are Vitamix Blenders?
Vita-Mix Corp. makes the Vitamix blenders [4]. The recalled parts are the clear containers and black blade bases that came with certain Venturist and Ascent series blenders. Some were sold separately, in sets or in bundles.
Who May Be Affected?
You may be affected if you own a Vitamix Ascent or Venturist series 8-ounce or 20-ounce blending container or blade base. The recall names the Venturist V1200 and the Ascent A2300, A2500, A3300 and A3500.
Sellers included Best Buy, Costco, Crate & Barrel, Macy’s, Target and Walmart. Others were Williams Sonoma, vitamix.com, Amazon.com and QVC.com. Sales ran from April 2017 to May 2024, at prices from $30 to $990.
The circumstance that matters most is a cut when your hand touched the blades after a container separated from the blade base. Whether you have a claim depends on your own facts, so an individualized legal review is needed.
Reported Injuries or Damages
The CPSC notice describes a laceration hazard from exposed blades. CPSC counted 11 laceration reports in 2018. Consumer Reports later said Vitamix had received 27, which include those 11.
Neither count is a court finding, and reports alone do not prove the product caused every injury. The class settlement was a different matter. Its plaintiffs alleged that black flecks from blade-assembly seals got into food and drink.

Evidence to Preserve
Keep these items if a Vitamix blender caused an injury:
- The container and blade base themselves
- The blade date code, which is laser-etched on top of the blade in the blade base
- The recall number, 24-276 or 18-202, and any repair-kit paperwork
- Receipts or order confirmations showing where and when you bought the part
- Photographs of the injury and of the blender
- Medical records and bills
- Messages with Vitamix or the retailer
Write down when and where the injury happened while you still remember the details. Keep the parts as they are until a lawyer tells you otherwise.
Filing Deadlines
A time limit applies to any blender injury claim, and state law sets it. Your date may differ from a neighbor’s, because it follows where you live and when you were cut.
A lawyer can tell you which limit fits your situation. The closed settlement claim date does not set your limit.

Depending on the facts, injury damages can include medical bills, lost income, pain and suffering and scarring. The only sourced relief came from the closed class settlement.
In the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio settlement, owners could claim a $70 Vitamix gift card or a replacement blade assembly.

Did the Blade Seal Settlement Allege Any Health Risk?
The blade seal settlement complaint did not allege any health risk from polytetrafluoroethylene, or PTFE, according to Consumer Reports. Plaintiffs said only that the flecks cut the blenders’ value. Vita-Mix denies the allegations and any liability.
