Sunjoy is the named maker in two CPSC recalls. The newer one covers Oakmont LP fire pit tables sold at Big Lots. A burner kit hose installed incorrectly can melt and ignite, according to the recall notice.

CPSC announced Recall No. 21-027 for about 10,900 Oakmont LP fire pit tables made by Sunjoy and sold at Big Lots. An incorrectly installed burner kit hose can melt and ignite [1].
Sunjoy received 17 reports of incorrectly installed hoses, 12 of which ignited. There were 4 reports of minor property damage and one report of a consumer burned on the hand.
October 6, 2015: Proposition 65 Case Settles
According to the California Attorney General’s record, the Proposition 65 case Wimberley v. Sunjoy Industries Group, Ltd. et al., a San Diego Superior Court case, settled [2]. It was not a burn injury case.
The claim was a failure to warn about chemicals in the Hampton Bay Collette Fire Pit. The settlement requires Proposition 65 warnings on the products and total payments of $28,000.
June 23, 2015: Complaint Filed in San Diego
Evelyn Wimberley filed a civil complaint in San Diego Superior Court, No. 37-2015-00021026-CU-NP-CTL, against Sunjoy Industries Group, Ltd. and Home Depot. It followed her November 18, 2014 Proposition 65 notice, filed with the California Attorney General.
She sought warnings, a civil penalty, and reformulation or an end to sales of that fire pit. Her notice named carbon monoxide and carbon-black extracts as the chemicals.
March 8, 2011: Outdoor Fireplace Recall Announced
CPSC and Health Canada announced Recall No. 11-157 for Garden Treasures Living outdoor fireplaces from Sunjoy and sold at Lowe’s. The recall covered about 20,000 fireplaces in the United States and about 400 in Canada [3].
The decorative bronze powder coat finish on the chimney can ignite during use. Consumers should immediately stop using the fireplace and contact Sunjoy for a free replacement chimney and chimney cap.
Who May Be Affected?
Anyone who bought an Oakmont LP fire pit table made by Sunjoy may be affected. Owners whose burner kit hose was installed incorrectly and melted or ignited are the closest match.
