What’s the Problem?
This recall affects Range Rover Sport vehicles from model years 2010-2011, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The upper cover on the rear spoiler of affected vehicles may detach from the vehicle. “If the spoiler detaches while driving, it can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash,” NHTSA said.
Land Rover is notifying owners and dealers will inspect the spoiler assembly. If the spoiler has not delaminated, a new adhesive will be applied to secure the upper spoiler cover. If the outer surface of the rear spoiler has detached, a new spoiler will be installed, free of charge.
This recall began on November 20, 2020.
Range Rover Timing Chain Class Action Lawsuit
In January 2022, Jaguar agreed to settle a timing chain class action lawsuit to resolve claims that certain models of its Range Rover and Land Rover vehicles have a defective timing chain.
Plaintiffs in the lawsuit alleged that, between 2012 and 2014, Range Rover Sport and Land Rover vehicles were sold with a defective timing chain. The timing chain allows the vehicle’s engine valves to open and vent exhaust out of the engine while letting gas and air in.
Due to the alleged defect in Land Rover timing chains, affected vehicles experienced premature engine failure. The timing chains, timing chain tensioners, tensioner levers, and even the entire engine can fail due to the defect, according to the lawsuit. This problem caused serious repairs that drivers were expected to pay for.
As part of the settlement, Jaguar did not admit any wrongdoing but agreed to resolve the claims in the class action.
The settlement benefits current and former lessees of model year 2012 to 2014 Land Rover LR4 and/or Range Rover Sport vehicles as of Aug. 6, 2021.
