What’s the Problem?

The recalled PurSteam Elite Travel Steamers and PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamers can expel hot water from the steam nozzle during use. This creates a serious burn hazard for users and bystanders when hot water is released unexpectedly, even during normal operation. Between 2020 and 2024, multiple reports of hot water expulsion included reports of burn injuries, some of which were second-degree burns. These hazards affect both models covered by the recall.

Product & Usage Overview

The recall includes two steamer models: PurSteam Elite Travel Steamer (Model PS-510) and PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamer (Model PS-550). The Elite model features a triangular-shaped opening for steam vents, and the Mighty Lil model has an oblong-shaped opening. Both are white steamers with the PurSteam logo printed below the water reservoir window.

The date code label appears on the bottom of the products in YYMM format and helps identify whether a specific unit is subject to the recall. PurSteam steamers with date codes including 2310, 2308, 2305, 2304, 2303, 2212, 2211, 2210, 2203, 2112, 2111, 2110, 0221, 1019, and 4619 are covered by the recall.

Incidents & Injuries

The recall notice reports about 80 incidents of hot water expulsion for the PurSteam Elite Travel Steamer model PS-510 between December 2020 and 2024, including 14 burn injuries. For the PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamer model PS-550, there were about 392 reports of hot water expulsion, including 40 burn injuries, two of which were second-degree burns. Some additional reports of burn injuries predate Aterian’s acquisition of PurSteam in December 2020.

Where and When the Products Were Sold

PurSteam Elite Travel Steamers were sold online at Pursteam.com, Amazon.com, and Walmart.com from December 2020 through April 2025 for about $15 to $35. The PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamers were sold at the same retailers from December 2020 through January 2024 for about $11 to $30.

What Consumers Should Do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled steamers. To receive a full refund, the recall requires consumers to visit recall.pursteam.com and submit a Recall Request, provide contact information, cut the steamer’s cord, and upload a photo of the steamer with the cut cord.
