Northlight Bio Ethanol Portable Tabletop Fireplaces can cause uncontrolled pool fires and flame jetting, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The CPSC says these hazards can result in serious or fatal burns.
The CPSC issued its warning on May 7, 2026. It tells consumers to stop using the fireplaces immediately and dispose of them.
The warning covers seven item numbers. It is a safety warning rather than a recall. Health Canada recalled the same product line in October 2025. No Northlight lawsuit or MDL has been filed.

May 7, 2026: CPSC Warns Consumers to Stop Using Northlight Fireplaces
On May 7, 2026, the CPSC issued Product Safety Warning 26-473 for Northlight Bio Ethanol Portable Tabletop Fireplaces [1]. It urged consumers to stop using the fireplaces and dispose of them. The CPSC also said not to sell or give them away. Gordon Companies Inc. sold the fireplaces and has not agreed to a recall. Reported Injuries or Damages
The CPSC warning describes the risk of serious or fatal burns from pool fires and jetting flames. It publishes no Northlight incident or injury count. No lawsuit alleges injuries from these fireplaces. The CPSC states that isopropyl alcohol, ethanol, bioethanol and similar liquid fuels can burn with flame temperatures over 1,600°F. Such flames can cause third degree burns in less than one second. Igniting a pool of liquid fuel in an open container can result in an uncontrolled pool fire. The CPSC also warns of a second danger when refilling the fireplace. If any flame is present, a small flame can ignite vapor inside the fuel container as fuel is poured. The result is an explosion that sends flames and burning liquid toward the consumer or bystanders. Mayo Clinic says major burns need emergency medical help [3]. Anyone burned in a flare-up or fuel spill should get medical care first, before thinking about any claim.Recall and Regulatory Background
The CPSC names Gordon Companies Inc. as the retailer of the fireplaces. Health Canada lists Gordon Companies, USA as the distributor and Rona Inc as the Canadian importer.
