Mammut Skywalker Pro Via Ferrata Sets were recalled because the carabiner can open without engaging the safety latch. That creates a serious fall hazard.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the fast-track recall on June 12, 2025. It covers about 580 units in the United States, models 2040-02840, 2040-02850 and 2040-02870. No injuries have been reported.
Mammut issued a precautionary call for inspection of the same models on November 3, 2025. Stop using the sets and follow the return steps below. No lawsuit, class action or MDL has been filed.
Latest Mammut Skywalker Pro via Ferrata Set Recall Updates
November 11, 2025: UK Issues Recall 2511-0039
The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards rates the risk Serious for the Skywalker Pro and Skywalker Pro Turn sets. It published Product Recall 2511-0039 [1].
The notice says the plastic part of the locking mechanism may bend in cooler temperatures. The automatic locking function may then fail. Mammut recommends a precautionary inspection and return.
November 3, 2025: Mammut Issues Precautionary Call for Inspection
Models 2040-02840, 2040-02850 and 2040-02870 are covered by a Precautionary Call for Inspection from Mammut [2]. Batches 07/2021 and 11/2022 without an R go back directly for replacement.
Other batches get a refrigerator test of at least 1 hour at 0 to 10 C. Mammut says the problem lies in the carabiner’s plastic latch arms.
August 27, 2025: Health Canada Posts Recall Notice
Health Canada published a consumer product recall notice for the Skywalker Pro sets, batches 07/2021 and 11/2022. The notice lists a fall hazard [3].
The company reported 67 units sold in Canada from August 2024 to March 2025. It had received no injury reports there as of August 26, 2025.
June 12, 2025: CPSC Announces Fast-Track Recall
The CPSC announced fast-track Recall No. 25-335 for about 580 units in the United States, with about 42 more sold in Canada [4]. The remedy is a refund, and no incidents or injuries were reported.
April 7, 2025: UK Publishes Recall 2503-0184
The UK agency published Product Recall 2503-0184 for the Skywalker Pro Via Ferrata Set, Pro Turn Set and Package [5].
Carabiners may open without the safety catch being pressed, according to the notice. The notice gives the risk level as Serious.
March 27, 2025: Mammut Announces Voluntary Recall
Mammut announced a voluntary recall of the Skywalker Pro and Skywalker Pro Turn sets sold since 2023. The company cited an assembly issue with the carabiner locking mechanism [6].
Mammut said the carabiners may open without the need to press the plastic latch. It offered refunds to owners of the affected sets.
Which Mammut Skywalker Pro via Ferrata Sets Are Affected?
The recall covers these sets, which are used for mountain and rock climbing:
- Skywalker Pro Via Ferrata Set
- Skywalker Pro Turn Via Ferrata Set
- Skywalker Pro Via Ferrata Package
- Model numbers 2040-02840, 2040-02850 and 2040-02870
- Carabiner batch numbers 07/2021 and 11/2022
Each set has a blue cord with an orange and gray carabiner. The model number is on a tag inside the pouch.
Stores sold the sets from February 2023 through March 2025 for $150 to $280. Sellers included Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Wyoming, Campsaver in Utah and other outdoor and recreation stores nationwide.
Why Were the Mammut Skywalker Pro via Ferrata Sets Recalled?
The sets were recalled because, according to CPSC, the carabiner can be opened without engaging the safety latch. This poses a risk of serious injury or death due to fall hazard.
Mammut’s March 27, 2025 notice says the potential malfunction stems from an assembly issue. Its November 3, 2025 notice traces the root cause to the carabiner’s plastic latch arms.
These can become slightly bent inwards during production, transport or storage. When bent and exposed to lower temperatures, the latch may stiffen. That can restrict the gate’s movement and may prevent it from closing properly.
Mammut says the issue is not a basic manufacturing or quality control error. The UK agency rates the risk Serious and says an impaired locking function could cause a climber to detach from the safety line and fall.
Reported Incidents, Injuries, or Illnesses
CPSC lists no incidents or injuries for the recalled sets. Mammut says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this potential defect.
The hazard is a fall from height. A failed carabiner gate could leave a climber detached from the safety line, according to the UK agency.
What Should Consumers Do?
Follow these steps if you own a recalled Skywalker Pro set:
- Stop using the set immediately.
- Check the model number and the batch number laser-printed on the carabiner.
- Send batches 07/2021 and 11/2022 without an additional R back directly.
- For other carabiners, chill the set in a refrigerator at 0 to 10 C (32 to 50 F) for at least 1 hour.
- Open and close the gate several times. If it sticks open or moves with resistance, return it.
- Email warranty.usa@mammut.com for a prepaid return label. From a package, return only the via ferrata set and keep the helmet and harness.
- Call the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772 or report a problem at SaferProducts.gov.
Legal Options
If you were hurt in a fall, ask a lawyer whether an individual product-liability claim may apply. A recall alone does not decide who is liable or who qualifies. No settlement or group case exists over these sets.
Useful records include the set and its pouch tag, the batch number and proof of purchase. Keep photographs of the carabiner and gate, the return label, Mammut emails and any medical records.
