Hard Boiled Eggs Recalled for Listeria
Dec. 30, 2019 – Kirkland Signature hard-boiled eggs are being recalled from Costco stores nationwide because they may be contaminated with listeria, according to an FDA Recall Notice issued on December 23.
At least 7 people have fallen ill with a listeria infection, including 1 person who died from complications, in a 5-state food poisoning outbreak linked to contaminated hard-boiled eggs produced by Almark Foods in Gainesville, Georgia.
Almark recalled bulk supplies of hard-boiled eggs on Dec. 20 after routine testing identified the presence of listeria bacteria in samples taken from the company’s plant in Gainesville, FDA said. The eggs were sold in white plastic buckets to restaurants and other food service companies.
On Dec. 23, Almark expanded its recall to include hard-boiled eggs sold in grocery stores under a variety of brands, including Eggland’s Best, Pete & Gerry’s, Simple Truth, and Kirkland Signature. The eggs have “Best if used by” dates that start with a “G,” meaning they were manufactured in Gainesville. The dates run through March 2, FDA said.
Kirkland Signature eggs are sold exclusively at Costco stores nationwide and online at the Costco website.
