What’s the Problem?
This recall affects Honda Odyssey vehicles from model years 2018-2020, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The wire harness for the third-row seat accessory power outlet on affected minivans may get pinched between the unibody and rear trim panel, potentially damaging the wires and causing an electrical short, NHTSA said.
An intermittent electrical short could overheat the wire harness, increasing the risk of fire and serious personal injuries.
Honda is notifying owners and dealers will repair the problem, if necessary, free of charge. This recall began on March 16, 2020.
Class Action Lawsuit Alleges Honda Odyssey Programming Defect
In September 2023, a class action lawsuit was filed alleging that a 9-speed automatic transmission found in certain Honda Odyssey, Pilot, Passport, and Ridgeline vehicles was manufactured with a programming defect that can cause rough or delayed shifting, harsh accelerations and decelerations, and a sudden loss of power.
Plaintiffs further claim that the Honda transmission problems were caused by “design and/or workmanship defects” stemming from the “improper design and/or calibration” of the ZF 9HP transmission’s control software. The class action states that it is Honda’s responsibility to ensure that the transmission control software is properly calibrated for use in the affected vehicles, specifically with respect to how the transmission control module communicates with other modules.
The class action is seeking to cover all consumers in the U.S. who purchased or leased any Honda vehicle equipped with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

Can I be reimbursed for expenses incurred due to a Honda Odyssey recall?
Yes, you may be eligible for reimbursement of certain expenses incurred due to a Honda Odyssey recall, such as the cost of rental vehicles, towing, or any out-of-pocket expenses related to the defect. Keep all receipts and documentation to support your claim for reimbursement.
How does a recall impact the warranty on my Honda Odyssey?

Can I refuse to have the recall repairs done on my Honda Odyssey?
While you have the right to refuse recall repairs on your Honda Odyssey, it’s not advisable to do so, especially if the recall addresses a significant safety issue.
