FitRx SmartBell adjustable dumbbells sold at Walmart have been recalled twice. Weight plates can dislodge during use, and reports describe broken toes, bruises and lacerations.

April 23, 2026: CPSC Posts Recall of 50,000 SmartBell Dumbbells
The CPSC 2026 notice covers a recall by Tzumi Electronics of about 50,000 FitRx SmartBell Quick-Select 5-52.5 lbs adjustable dumbbells, model 8361, recall 26-431 [1].
The remedy is a free replacement of the dumbbell and tray. Owners must register with Tzumi before they dispose of the dumbbell.
March 20, 2025: CPSC Posts Recall of 12,400 SmartBell XL Dumbbells
The CPSC 2025 notice announces that Tzumi Electronics is recalling about 12,400 FitRx SmartBell XL Quick-Select 10-90 lbs. adjustable dumbbells, model 9034, recall 25-184 [2].
The XL remedy is a free repair. The notice calls the hazard an impact hazard to consumers, and it covers only this larger model.
Which FitRx Smart Bell Are Affected?
Two FitRx SmartBell models are recalled. Both are black with red accents, with handles, weight plates and a molded plastic storage tray marked “FitRx”. You can find the model and serial number on the side of the storage tray:
- FitRx SmartBell XL 10-90 lbs.: model 9034, serial number KK23289034, adjusts in five-pound increments.
- XL sales: about 12,400 units sold exclusively online at the website of Walmart, priced between $150 and $200, from September 2023 through June 2024.
- FitRx SmartBell 5-52.5 lbs.: model 8361, adjusts in 2.5- or 5-pound increments.
- Model 8361 serial numbers: KK23288361 through KK23388361 and KK207608361 through KK21347836 only.
- 5-52.5 lbs. sales: about 50,000 units sold at Walmart stores nationwide and online from January 2024 through November 2024 for about $100.
Why Was FitRx Smart Bell Recalled?
FitRx SmartBell was recalled because weight plates can dislodge from the handle during use, posing a risk of serious injury due to impact hazard.
Tzumi Electronics recalled the dumbbells twice. The first recall covered the SmartBell XL. The second covered the 5-52.5 lbs model a little over a year later. The 2025 notice describes an impact hazard to consumers.
Reported Incidents, Injuries, or Illnesses
For the 2026 recall, the CPSC notice lists more than 115 reports of weight plates dislodging during use. It links them to at least six injuries, including broken toes, bruises, contusions and lacerations.
In 2025, more than 60 reports described at least seven injuries, such as bruises, contusions and abrasions. An AL.com report repeats the 2026 figures [3]. Reports are not proof that the dumbbells caused every incident.
What Should Consumers Do?
If you own a FitRx SmartBell dumbbell, take these steps:
- Check your model and serial number against the recalled list.
- Stop using a recalled dumbbell immediately.
- For the 5-52.5 lbs model, write the word “Recalled” across the tray with permanent spray paint or marker.
- For the 5-52.5 lbs model, register at myfitrx.com/recall-52-lbs for a free replacement dumbbell and tray, then dispose of the old dumbbell once registration is confirmed.
- For the XL model, ask Tzumi for a free repair.
- Call Tzumi toll free at 866-363-2237, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or email smartbellrecall@tzumi.com (5-52.5 lbs) or XLRecall@tzumi.com (XL).
- Report an injury to CPSC at SaferProducts.gov or 800-638-2772, and use the CPSC recall complaint form if a remedy is not honored.
Legal Options
