Latest Babyjoy High Chair Recall Updates
April 10, 2025: CPSC Announces Activity Center Recall
CPSC and Costway announced recall 25-222 of about 1,400 Babyjoy Convertible 6-in-1 High Chair Activity Centers (BB5693YW and BB5693GR) [1]. The notice names Costway as the importer.
The notice title cites entrapment and serious injury hazards for the activity centers and a violation of federal regulations. The notice says Costway and Amazon are contacting all known purchasers of the activity centers directly.
March 24, 2025: Health Canada Posts High Chair Recall
Health Canada posted a recall of the Costway Babyjoy Baby High Chair, the same product line as the CPSC high chair recall. The company reported that 42 units were sold in Canada [2].
The 42 units are a separate Health Canada figure and are not added to the CPSC counts. The notice title cites entrapment, suffocation and fall hazards for the chair.
February 27, 2025: CPSC Announces High Chair Recall
CPSC and Costway announced recall 25-166 of about 4,400 Babyjoy High Chair units, models BB5656PI, BB5656BE and BB5656GR, sold in pink, beige and gray [3]. The notice says Costway is directly contacting all known high chair purchasers.
The CPSC notice title cites entrapment and suffocation hazards, a ban on inclined sleepers and a violation of federal regulations for high chairs.
Which Babyjoy High Chairs Are Affected?
Two Babyjoy products are covered by the CPSC recalls:
- Babyjoy High Chairs: models BB5656PI (pink), BB5656BE (beige) and BB5656GR (gray). Sold on Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Costway.com and Shein.com from November 2022 through November 2024 for $70 to $110.
- Babyjoy Convertible 6-in-1 High Chair Activity Centers: models BB5693YW (beige) and BB5693GR (gray). Sold on Costway.com, Amazon.com and Target.com from November 2021 through June 2024 for $115 to $200.
Goplus Corporation, doing business as Costway, of Fontana, California, is the retailer named in notice 25-166 and the importer named in notice 25-222. It announced both recalls with CPSC. The model number appears on the product packaging.
Why Were the Babyjoy High Chairs Recalled?
The Babyjoy High Chairs were recalled because CPSC found they pose a fatal suffocation risk and a deadly entrapment hazard.
The suffocation risk exists because the chairs were marketed, intended, or designed for infant sleep and have an incline angle greater than 10 degrees. That violates the federal Safe Sleep for Babies Act.
The entrapment hazard exists because the opening between the seat and tray is large enough for a child to become entrapped, which violates the federal regulations for high chairs.
The Babyjoy Convertible 6-in-1 High Chair Activity Centers were recalled because they violate the federal regulations for high chairs and stationary activity centers.
The leg openings in the seat are too wide, and a child can become entrapped. The tray can also disengage, and a child can fall. These are CPSC’s own statements of the hazards, not allegations.
Reported Incidents, Injuries, or Illnesses
The CPSC notice for the high chairs lists incidents and injuries as none reported. The notice for the activity centers lists the same. The CPSC recall database record for the high chairs also shows no injuries.
Health Canada gives a separate figure for Canada, which is not part of the CPSC notices. It says the company had received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada as of March 13, 2025.
Health Canada also asks consumers to report health or safety incidents with its Consumer Product Incident Report Form. Reports alone are not proof that a product caused an injury.
What Should Consumers Do?
Take these steps if you own a Babyjoy high chair or activity center covered by a recall:
- Compare your model number with the recalled models listed above.
- Stop using the recalled product immediately.
- Contact Costway for a full refund and instructions on how to return or dispose of the product.
- Reach Costway toll-free at 844-242-1885 or at recall@costway.com. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, PT for the high chairs and ET for the activity centers.
- Report a dangerous product or a product-related injury to CPSC at SaferProducts.gov, or call the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772.
Other Recalls, Warnings, or International Actions
Health Canada has its own recall of this chair. It covers the same three models that CPSC recalled: BB5656PI, BB5656BE and BB5656GR.
It says the high chairs pose a fatal suffocation risk because their incline angle is greater than 7 degrees. It also names entrapment and fall hazards. The CPSC notice gives a 10-degree figure instead.
