What’s the problem?

November 7, 2011 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today that Whittington’s Jerky is currently recalling approximately 126 pounds of the following beef jerky products because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria:

  • 2-oz. packages of “Whittington’s Original Beef Jerky”
  • 4-oz. packages of “Whittington’s Original Beef Jerky”

These products can be identified by the establishment number ‘EST. 21257,’ which is located inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The contamination was discovered as a result of routine testing by the FSIS. The agency determined that the affected beef jerky was distributed by Whittington’s before test results were confirmed. To date, there have been no illnesses reported in connection with this recall. If you are concerned about an illness, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately.
