The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) [1] is warning consumers to avoid SARMs, or selective androgen receptor modulators, which are unapproved supplements commonly used by bodybuilders and others in the fitness community, as the products have been linked to an increased risk for serious side effects including liver damage, heart attack, blood clots and death.

What is Andarine?

Andarine is a SARM initially developed to treat muscle-wasting conditions and osteoporosis. The product showed early promise in animal studies, where it effectively increased bone density, muscle mass, and strength. However, studies on human patients were stopped prematurely. Andarine is still popular among athletes due to its muscle-building and fat-reducing effects.

Andarine Ingredients

Andarine is a Phase 3 selective non-steroidal androgen receptor (AR) agonist with Ki of 4 nM, tissue-selective for anabolic organs.

What are SARMs?

Unlike traditional anabolic steroids, SARMs work specifically on muscle tissue, which is why manufacturers and proponents of the products consider them “safe steroids.” In theory, SARMS mimic the effects of testosterone in the body; however, unlike synthetic testosterone or anabolic steroids, they are directly targeted at skeletal muscle. However, given that they are so new, and may be adulterated with unregulated substances, it is still unclear just how safe or dangerous SARMs truly are.

Most cases involving pharmaceuticals allege that a drug was sold with design, manufacturing, and/or marketing defects, which typically refers to a company’s failure to warn of a certain side effect. In the case of Andarine, our attorneys suspect that patients may be able to take legal action in light of claims that the manufacturer failed to adequately warn doctors and patients about the risk of severe liver damage and cardiovascular complications.
