Tiger Paw II May Cause Tearing, Bleeding in Heart: FDA Warning

May 7, 2015 – The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) [1] announced today that Maquet Medical Systems is recalling the Tiger Paw System II after reports surfaced indicating that incomplete closure of the instrument could result in “tissue tears and/or bleeding, including a possible tear on the left atrial wall (top left chamber) during use of the device.”

The TigerPaw II is a surgical staple used to close tissue in the left atrial appendage of the heart. Models affected by the recall were distributed from Apr. 1, 2013 thru Mar. 23, 2015. On March 30, Maquet sent an Urgent Medical Device Recall letter to all affected customers.
