Geek Chef Pressure Cooker Lawsuit Attorney

Consumers have reported that the food in their Geek Chef Pressure Cookers exploded after they opened the lid, causing severe burns and other injuries. It is believed that the cookers contain a defective pressure release valve that inaccurately indicates that the built-up pressure has escaped the appliance, prompting consumers to open the lids before they should.

What is the Geek Chef Pressure Cooker?

The Geek Chef Electric Pressure Cooker is a new generation of electric pressure cookers that are designed to cook up to 70% faster than traditional methods. Geek Chef has combined 12 functions including an upgraded manual / DIY function, user-customized cooking time settings, and low/high-pressure settings.

The appliance is the first electric pressure cooker to be sold in the United States that offers both the oval inner pot and double-sided handles and boasts a newly designed EZ-lock structure.

What’s the Problem?

Poorly designed or manufactured pressure cookers can explode, causing severe burns and even shrapnel injuries to anyone in the vicinity of the blast. This can occur when the lid is opened before all of the pressure in the cooker is released.

Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to determine whether it’s safe for you to open the lid of a pressure cooker after it’s done cooking without the product functioning properly. When pressure cookers malfunction because of defects, they can explode and cause injury through the sudden release of built-up pressure or electrical charge.

Pressure Cooker Injury Study

As maintained by a study published in the Journal of Injury Prevention in November 2023 [1], researchers looked at the incidence of pressure cooker-related injuries in US hospital emergency departments to quantify injury patterns associated with pressure cookers and inform prevention recommendation messaging.

The NEISS query identified 759 actual pressure cooker injuries between 2003 and 2019, yielding a national estimate of 28 337 (95% CI 24 588 to 32,086) injuries treated in US emergency departments, 1667 cases annually, the researchers said. Analysis of case narratives resulted in the identification of four predominant precipitating or contributing factors to injury: burning agent, struck by product, injured while opening and other.

For the study, researchers queried the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) to identify injuries associated with pressure cookers between 1 January 2003 and 31 December 2019.

About Lawsuits

People injured in pressure cooker explosions have a right to seek compensation for their injuries. However, many do not realize they have been the victim of someone else’s negligence. They may instead believe they made a mistake or that the accident was their fault.

Our lawyers have found that many of these accidents are caused by a product defect, as mentioned. Those who profit from these pressure cookers have a responsibility to ensure their products do not endanger others.

If you were injured, you may have the chance to hold the at-fault party responsible, recover compensation for your injuries, and be part of the push to get the defective cooker off the market.

We urge those injured to reach out to our firm. Remember, you do not have to wait until a product is recalled to seek justice.

Can I File a Class Action Lawsuit?

Product liability claims are generally more suited for the individual; on the other hand, class action lawsuits are taken on by attorneys and feature many plaintiffs who have been affected by the defendant.

In this case, if multiple pressure cookers caused widespread injuries due to malfunctions or other product issues, the company will owe multiple plaintiffs some sort of compensation.

A class action lawsuit is often reserved for extensive product problems. You should talk to an expert attorney who has experience in product liability cases to figure out if the appliance has had widespread problems or if it was an isolated incident in your kitchen.
