What’s the Problem
This recall affects Nissan Versa cars from model year 2020, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Due to a potential manufacturing defect, the fuel tank wall thickness in affected vehicles may be insufficient, potentially causing a small hole in the tank seam area. If a small hole is present, a fuel leak may occur if the tank is over half full, increasing the risk of a fire.
Nissan is notifying owners and dealers will replace the fuel tank, free of charge. This recall began on March 23, 2020.

Nissan Transmission Class Action Settlement
In November 2019, Nissan agreed to extend warranties and reimburse repair expenses for consumers who purchased or leased a 2012 to 2017 Versa, 2014 to 2017 Versa Note, or 2013 to 2017 Sentra vehicles with a defective transmission.
The plaintiffs filed their claims in June 2018, alleging that their vehicles were equipped with defective transmissions.
The alleged transmission defect reportedly causes affected vehicles to suddenly jerk and shake while driving. This can reportedly occur unexpectedly at inopportune times, with one plaintiff claiming he experienced the problem in the middle of a 5-lane freeway.
The class action further alleges that the problem first presents in vehicles after the 5-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty had expired, meaning that consumers were forced to pay for repairs.
As part of the settlement, Nissan has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the claims filed against the company.
Consumers were given an extension of their Nissan New Vehicle Limited Warranty from 60 months or 60,000 miles to 84 months or 84,000 miles and were also eligible to have their repair expenses reimbursed.
