How to Send Money to an Inmate in Los Angeles County Jail

According to SCLG, if you have a loved one in a Los Angeles County jail, you can send them money to be used for purchasing food, snacks, hygiene items, and clothing from the jail commissary. This process is often referred to as “putting money on the inmate’s books” [1].

If you reside in California, you can send money to an inmate in the Los Angeles County jail by means of a certified bank cashier’s check or USPS money order. If you reside outside of California, you can only send a postal money order

Ensure the check or money order is payable to the inmate’s name and booking number and mail it to the appropriate address:

How to Deposit Money for an Inmate in Los Angeles County Jail

Can You Make a Deposit in Person?
Yes, you can deposit money into an inmate’s account in person at the following locations:

Inmate Reception Center (IRC)
450 Bauchet Street
Los Angeles, CA 90012

Century Regional Detention Facility (CRDF)
11705 S. Alameda Street
Lynwood, CA 90262

Be sure to bring a government-issued photo ID when making a deposit. Note that the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) no longer accepts online deposits for inmates.

Can You Pick Up Money from an Inmate’s Account?
Yes, you can. The inmate must obtain and submit a money release form (pink form) from the on-duty custody staff. If the inmate is at Pitchess Detention Center (PDC), you can get the money release form from the PDC visiting area check-in window.
