What’s the Problem?

October 18, 2016 – According to the lawsuit (PDF), Plaintiff suffered complications including persistent abdominal pain, diminished bowel motility and bowel obstructions following Physiomesh hernia repair surgery in 2014. She underwent a second surgery in 2015 to remove the hernia patch, which was unsuccessful and left her with mesh stuck in her bowels and abdominal walls.

In May 2016, Ethicon permanently withdrew Physiomesh from the global market after data showed higher than average recurrence and reoperation rates following laparoscopic ventral hernia repair with the products. Plaintiff was implanted with one of the hernia repair patches (Product Code PHY2025V) included in the withdrawal action, according to the lawsuit.

The suit further alleges that the Physiomesh hernia patch was defectively designed and manufactured, and that Plaintiff will likely have extreme pain and medical complications for the rest of her life.

The complaint was filed on September 22, 2016, in the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida under case number 6:16-cv-01663-PGB-DAB.
