NutriZone Supplements Recall Lawsuit

A Houston, Texas-based pharmaceuticals manufacturer is recalling 4 different supplements over potential contamination with salmonella, a bacterium that causes severe foodborne illness.

The potential for contamination was detected during routine testing conducted by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), according to a recall notice issued on Tuesday.

What’s the problem?

Products affected by the recall include:

  • Pain Out Maeng Da — Lot #10957
  • Pain Out Thai — Lot #10960-D
  • Pain Out Malay — Lot #10958-I
  • ‘Nirvanio Green Malay — Lot #10958-C

Lot numbers can be found on the packaging near the Nutrition Facts Panel, FDA said.

What is Salmonella?

Salmonella bacteria are a group of microscopic living creatures that are among the most frequently reported cause of foodborne illnesses nationwide. The salmonella family includes nearly 2,500 serotypes of bacteria, the most common of which are Salmonella Enteritidis and Salmonella Typhimurium. These strains account for about half of all human infection.

Signs and Symptoms

  • diarrhea (which may be bloody)
  • abdominal cramps
  • fever
  • chills
  • headache
  • nausea
  • vomiting

The recalled supplements were sold in Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Washington, Missouri, Florida, Mississippi, California and Texas.

Consumers who purchased any of the affected stock should return the unused portion to the point of purchase for a full refund.

To date, no salmonella illnesses or other injuries have been linked to the recall, FDA said.
