What’s the Problem?
July 18, 2017 – Allison Perrins is questioning the fidget spinner craze after the close call with her 12-year-old daughter, according to ABC10.
“It was so hot I couldn’t hold it at all,” Allison Perrins said. “What if my house had burned down? That’s pretty major.”
Fidget spinners are small toys made with metal and ball bearings that you twirl between your fingers. Almost overnight, the toys have become all the rage with kids across the U.S.
Costing just a few dollars apiece, the toys were originally intended to help ease symptoms of ADHD and anxiety.
However, the toys have since gained mainstream popularity. YouTube videos of fidget spinner tricks have been racking up millions of pageviews, and 200,000 people have posted on Instagram using the “spinner” hashtag.
In addition to the reports of fidget spinners overheating and catching fire, there have been warnings from the CPSC about the gadgets being a potential choking hazard. The commission is looking into the incidents of choking.
