What’s the Problem?
According to the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) [1], this recall affects:
- CB2 Junction Tall Chests (SKUs: 454-559 and 503-925)
- CB2 Junction Low Dressers (SKUs: 454-060 and 503-904)
“The recalled chests and dressers are unstable if they are not anchored to the wall, posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in death or injuries to children,” CPSC said. “CB2 has received 10 reports of incidents, including five reports of the Tall Chest and five reports of the Low Dresser tipping forward when the tip-over kit was not in use.”
The Tall Chest measures 28 inches wide x 46 inches tall and the Low Dresser measures 56 inches wide x 26 inches tall.
The recalled furniture was sold at CB2 stores nationwide and online from December 2012 through July 2019 for between $700 and $850.
If you purchased a chest or dresser that is affected by this recall, you should stop using it immediately unless it is properly anchored to a wall and place it an area where children cannot access it. Contact CB2 for instructions on how to receive store credit or a refund.
This recall began on January 27, 2021.

How Furniture Can Be Dangerous
Between 2000 and 2019, 77% of all tip-over deaths involved children under the age of 6. At this age, kids are very curious and driven to explore. They’re also too short to reach the tops of tall pieces of furniture where tempting items may sit. All of this can cause young children to climb furniture such as dressers, tables, chests, TV stands, and bookcases.
Tip-overs can also happen when furniture is unstable. This instability may be caused by:
- Heavy objects in or on top of the furniture, such as appliances or TVs
- Multiple dresser drawers being open at the same time
- A furniture design that has a heavy top
- Placing the furniture on an unstable surface such as a carpet
When a piece of furniture falls on a child, it can crush or suffocate them under its weight. If it hits them in the head, they can end up with a traumatic brain injury, or TBI. Tip-overs can also lead to internal bleeding and broken bones.
