Blue Bird Recalls 2017-2023 Blue Bird Vision School Busses

On August 4, 2022, the NHTSA announced that Blue Bird was recalling certain 2017-2023 Blue Bird Vision school buses equipped with Roush fuel return lines included in GEN 4 and GEN 5 LPG Conversion Systems over concerns that the zinc-plating on the fuel return line may break away when contacted by road debris, causing 2 dissimilar metals on the fuel line to contact each other and corrode.

Affected Blue Bird school busses were sold or registered in the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Blue Bird dealers will replace the fuel return lines, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on September 28, 2022.

What’s the problem?

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 5,300 Blue Bird school buses have been implicated in the following nationwide recalls:

  • About 3,700 2008-10 All American & Vision models recalled for fuel leaks. Diesel fuel leaks causing fires reported. One of these buses was completely destroyed.
  • Approximately 1,500 2010-11 All American & Vision models were recalled due to the driver’s seat shock damper being prone to breakage. When this occurs, the seat can unexpectedly drop to the floor causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
  • 127 2010 All American models were recalled because of a problem with the weld around the steering shaft tube. Failure of the shaft could result in the loss of steering and create the potential for personal injury or death for occupants or pedestrians.

Any vehicle recall is a serious matter, but when it involves buses that are designed to transport children, the stakes are that much higher. Please contact us today if your child or other loved one has been injured or involved in an accident with a Blue Bird school bus.
