Primal Vantage Treestand Recall Lawsuit | 2026 Latest Updates

A recalled treestand can fail in seconds and send a hunter to the ground with almost no warning. Primal Vantage recalled certain Ameristep Hyde hang-on tree stands in 2015 after reports that the cast aluminum platform could break, creating a serious fall hazard.

What’s the Problem?

The recall involved a structural failure risk in the stand’s cast aluminum platform. If that platform breaks while a hunter is elevated, the user can fall to the ground and suffer serious injuries.

That kind of defect is especially dangerous because hang-on stands are used off the ground and depend on a stable platform to support body weight for extended periods. A sudden break can lead to broken bones, head trauma, spinal injuries, and other severe harm even if the hunter had no warning that the stand was about to fail.

Latest Updates

  • January 22, 2015 – Primal Vantage recalled Ameristep Hyde Cliff Hanger and Hyde Sky Walker tree stands because the cast aluminum platform can break and cause the user to fall. The recall covered about 1,000 units, followed six reports of aluminum platforms breaking, and offered consumers a full refund. [1.]

Product Identification

This recall involved two 2014 models of hang-on tree stands used by hunters. The recalled products were the Ameristep Hyde Cliff Hanger, model 2RX1H008C, and the Ameristep Hyde Sky Walker, model 2RX1H009C, both with date code JH-2014-3-6.

The date code is stamped on the back of the aluminum seat frame, and the model number appears on the packaging and in the instruction manual. The word “Hyde” is printed in red on the vertical aluminum bar between the seat and the foot platform.

Incidents and Injuries

Primal Vantage received six reports of the aluminum platform breaking. No injuries had been reported when the recall was announced.

Even without a reported injury count, a platform-break failure in a treestand is still serious because the defect directly affects the part of the stand meant to support the hunter. A stand that breaks under load creates an immediate fall risk rather than a minor inconvenience.

Where and When It Was Sold

The recalled stands were sold at Bass Pro Shops and other sporting goods stores nationwide. They were sold from July 2014 through November 2014 for between $220 and $250.

The stands were manufactured in China. That manufacturing detail can matter later if a claim involves product sourcing, design responsibility, or supply-chain evidence.

What Consumers Should Do Now

Consumers were told to stop using the recalled tree stands immediately and contact Primal Vantage for a full refund. CPSC provided a Primal Vantage contact number and website for recall participation.

If a fall or near-fall already happened, it may be important to preserve the stand, photographs, and any medical records before returning or discarding the product. That can help document the condition of the platform and any other visible failure points.

Do You Qualify for a Primal Vantage Treestand Recall Lawsuit?

A legal review may be appropriate if a recalled Hyde Cliff Hanger or Hyde Sky Walker stand broke, collapsed, or caused a fall or serious injury. Claims are often stronger when the stand can be clearly identified and the incident is supported by photographs, receipts, witness statements, or medical documentation.

Evidence to Gather

  • Photos of the treestand and the aluminum platform
  • Pictures of the seat-frame date code and model information
  • Purchase records, packaging, or instruction manuals
  • Medical records and emergency treatment records if a fall occurred
  • Witness statements and photographs of the accident scene

Potential Damages

Potential damages may include medical expenses, lost wages, rehabilitation costs, pain and suffering, and other documented losses tied to the fall.
