What’s the Problem?
The recalled baby walkers fail to meet the federal safety standard in multiple ways. They can fit through a standard doorway and are not designed to stop at the edge of a step as required, which creates a serious fall hazard for babies using the walker near stairs or changes in floor level.
The walkers also have leg openings that can allow a child to slip down until the child’s head becomes entrapped at the neck. That makes this more than a simple design issue. It is a dangerous infant product defect involving both fall and entrapment risks in a product meant for very young children.
Latest Updates
- March 19, 2020 – Kids & Koalas baby walkers were recalled because they can fit through a standard doorway, do not stop at the edge of a step as required, and have leg openings that can allow a child to slip down until the head becomes entrapped at the neck. The recall covered about 3,600 units sold exclusively on Amazon.com, and no incidents or injuries had been reported at the time of the recall. [1]
Product Identification
This recall involves Kids & Koalas-branded baby walkers. The foldable walkers have eight wheels, an adjustable-height seat, and were sold in grey, black, green, pink, blue, and white.
The Kids & Koalas logo is printed on the front of the tray and on the back of the seat. Model number X002 can be found on an attached hang tag underneath the product and on the packaging. Families evaluating a possible claim should preserve photographs of the walker, labels, packaging, and any proof of purchase.
Incidents and Injuries
No incidents or injuries had been reported when the recall was announced. That should be stated clearly.
Even so, recalls involving baby walkers are taken seriously because the federal standard exists to prevent exactly the kinds of stair fall and entrapment events described in this notice. A product does not need a long injury history to present a major legal concern when the alleged defect could seriously injure or kill a child.
Where and When It Was Sold
The recalled walkers were sold exclusively online at Amazon.com from September 2017 through July 2018. The sale price ranged from about $89 to $123.
The recall notice identified Utomen, of China, as the Amazon seller, and stated that the products were manufactured in China.
What Consumers Should Do Now
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled baby walkers, dismantle them, and throw them away. Amazon said it would contact all customers directly with further information related to refunds.
Do You Qualify for a Kids & Koalas Baby Walker Recall Lawsuit?
A legal review may be appropriate if a child suffered a fall, head injury, entrapment event, hospitalization, or other injury while using a recalled Kids & Koalas baby walker. Claims are usually stronger when the walker can be identified clearly and the incident is supported by photographs, medical records, receipts, or witness statements.
Evidence to Gather
- Photos of the walker and model tag
- Packaging showing model number X002
- Amazon receipts or order confirmations
- Medical records if an injury occurred
- Photos of the product after the incident
Potential Damages
Potential damages may include medical expenses, follow-up care costs, and other documented losses tied to an unsafe infant product.
Legal Theories and Liability Considerations
These claims are often evaluated under product liability, negligence, and failure-to-warn theories, including whether the walker complied with mandatory safety requirements and whether it was reasonably safe for normal infant use.
