What’s the Problem?

The recall involves a serious sleep-related safety issue. Infant swings are not supposed to function as infant sleep products when their incline angle exceeds 10 degrees because that position can create a dangerous environment for babies, including a risk of suffocation.

Here, the concern was not limited to one small defect. The recall stated that the Nova Baby Infant Swing was marketed, intended, or designed for infant sleep despite its incline angle, and that it also failed to meet required sleep warnings under the swing standard. For parents, that means the product raised both design and compliance concerns in a category where safe sleep rules are especially important.

Latest Updates

  • March 7, 2024 – Jool Baby recalled Nova Baby Infant Swings because the products were marketed, intended, or designed for infant sleep even though they have an incline angle greater than 10 degrees, posing a suffocation hazard and violating the Infant Sleep Products Regulation, the Safe Sleep for Babies Act, and mandatory warning requirements. The recall covered about 63,100 units, no incidents or injuries had been reported, and consumers were told to stop using the swings for sleep and request a free repair kit with a new seat, updated plush toys, and an updated remote control. Product Identification

This recall involves Jool Baby Nova Baby Infant Swings manufactured from June 2022 through September 2023. The recalled swings are gray and measure about 28 inches long, 19 inches wide, and 24 inches high.

The swings have a round aluminum base with music buttons on the front, a metal seat frame, a cloth seat with restraints and headrest, and a canopy with hanging toys, including a yellow moon, blue cloud, and pink star. “Jool Baby” appears on the base and “NOVA” appears on the seat label. The manufacturing date code is printed on the sewn-in warning label on the back of the seat.

Incidents and Injuries

No incidents or injuries had been reported when the recall was announced. That should be stated clearly.

Even so, recalls involving infant sleep hazards are taken seriously because the danger can be catastrophic even before a large number of injuries is reported. A product intended for babies does not need a long injury history to create substantial legal concern when the alleged defect involves suffocation risk.

Where and When It Was Sold

The recalled swings were sold at Walmart stores and online at JoolBaby.com, Amazon.com, Babylist.com, Target.com, Walmart.com, and other websites from November 2022 through November 2023 for about $150.

What Consumers Should Do Now

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled swings for sleep and contact Jool Baby for a free repair kit. The remedy includes a new seat with updated on-product warnings, updated plush toys, and an updated remote control.

Do You Qualify for a Jool Nova Baby Swing Recall Lawsuit?

A legal review may be appropriate if a baby experienced breathing distress, a suffocation event, hospitalization, or another injury while using a recalled Jool Nova Baby Infant Swing. Claims are usually stronger when the swing can be identified clearly and the incident is supported by medical records, product photos, proof of purchase, or witness statements.

Evidence to Gather

  • Photos of the swing and sewn-in warning label
  • Purchase receipts or online order confirmations
  • Manufacturing date code and product photos
  • Medical records if an injury occurred
  • Recall emails or communications with Jool Baby

Potential Damages

Potential damages may include medical expenses, follow-up care costs, and other documented losses tied to an unsafe infant product.

These claims are often evaluated under product liability, negligence, and failure-to-warn theories, including whether the swing was improperly marketed for sleep and whether it complied with applicable federal safety requirements.
