What’s the Problem?

The safety issue involves the dumbbell’s weight plates coming loose while the product is being used. If a plate dislodges mid-rep, it can drop or fly off and strike the user or anyone standing nearby.

That kind of failure is especially dangerous because adjustable dumbbells are used close to the body. A sudden release can hit feet, legs, hands, or other body parts before the user has any chance to react.

Latest Updates

  • April 23, 2026 – CPSC announced recall number 26-431 for FitRx SmartBell Quick-Select 5-52.5 pound Adjustable Dumbbells, model 8361, because weight plates can dislodge from the handle during use and create a serious impact hazard. The recall covered about 50,000 units and followed more than 115 reports of plates coming loose, with at least six injuries including broken toes, bruises, contusions, and lacerations [1].

Product Identification

This recall involves FitRx SmartBell Quick-Select Adjustable Dumbbells ranging from 5 to 52.5 pounds. The recalled model number is 8361, and the dumbbells were sold in black with red accents.

The product includes handles, weight plates, and a molded plastic storage tray. The model number and serial number are located on the side of the tray, and the name “FitRx” appears on both the tray and the dumbbell handles.

Affected Serial Numbers

Not every FitRx adjustable dumbbell is part of this recall. The affected serial numbers are limited to KK23288361 through KK23388361 and KK207608361 through KK21347836 only.

That detail matters because product identification can become one of the most important parts of an injury claim. A consumer who still has the tray, packaging, or purchase records may have an easier time confirming that the dumbbell involved was part of the recall population.

Injuries and Reported Harm

The recall was tied to more than 115 reports of weight plates dislodging during use. At least six people were reported injured, including consumers who suffered broken toes, bruises, contusions, and lacerations.

Those injuries are consistent with the way these products are normally used. A plate that drops during a curl, press, or row can hit the foot, bounce into the leg, or cause the user to lose control of the remaining handle.

Where and When It Was Sold

The recalled dumbbells were sold at Walmart stores nationwide and online at Walmart.com. The sales period ran from January 2024 through November 2024, and the product sold for about $100.

The importer was Tzumi Electronics Inc. of New York, New York. The dumbbells were manufactured in China.

What Consumers Should Do Now

Consumers should stop using the recalled adjustable dumbbells immediately. Tzumi is offering a free replacement dumbbell and tray.

As part of the recall process, consumers are instructed to write the word “Recalled” across the tray using spray paint or permanent marker, register through the recall process, and dispose of the product after the registration is confirmed. If an injury already happened, it may be important to photograph the dumbbell, tray, and any visible damage before disposal.

Do You Qualify for a FitRx Dumbbell Recall Lawsuit?

A legal review may be appropriate if a recalled FitRx dumbbell dropped a weight plate and caused broken toes, cuts, bruising, or another measurable loss. These cases are often stronger when the product can be identified clearly and the incident is supported by photographs, purchase records, and medical records.

Evidence to Gather

  • Photos of the dumbbell, tray, and model or serial number
  • Walmart receipts or online order confirmations
  • Photos of the dislodged plate and any damage
