Update: Macadamia Nuts Recalled for Listeria Risk

June 1, 2017 – FDA has announced two unrelated nut recalls — Kroger’s Simple Truth Dry Roasted Macadamia Nuts and Ava’s Organic Cashews Roasted & Salted — because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to FOX News. Affected products were were sold in Kroger, Gerbes, Backers and Dillons stores in Ohio, Southeast Indiana, Kansas, Northern Kentucky, Missouri and Nebraska.

What’s the Problem?

Products included in the recall are packaged in 5.6 oz. plastic tubs and labeled as “Whole Foods Market Raw Macadamia Nuts”, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). Recalled nuts have the UPC code 7-23055-21415-3, and sell-by dates of 4/22/15, 5/4/15 and 5/6/15. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall.

April 17 – Whole Foods issued another recall today for macadamia nuts over potential salmonella contamination. These products were sold at Whole Foods Markets and Harry’s Farmers Market Stores in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Click here to learn more.

Salmonella Food Poisoning Symptoms
