Whole Foods Market is now recalling pre-packaged raw macadamia nuts because they may be contaminated by salmonella, a potentially deadly foodborne pathogen. Affected products were distributed to Whole Foods, Greenlife Grocery and Harry’s Farmers Markets in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Update: Macadamia Nuts Recalled for Listeria Risk
June 1, 2017 – FDA has announced two unrelated nut recalls — Kroger’s Simple Truth Dry Roasted Macadamia Nuts and Ava’s Organic Cashews Roasted & Salted — because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to FOX News. Affected products were were sold in Kroger, Gerbes, Backers and Dillons stores in Ohio, Southeast Indiana, Kansas, Northern Kentucky, Missouri and Nebraska.
What’s the Problem?
Products included in the recall are packaged in 5.6 oz. plastic tubs and labeled as “Whole Foods Market Raw Macadamia Nuts”, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). Recalled nuts have the UPC code 7-23055-21415-3, and sell-by dates of 4/22/15, 5/4/15 and 5/6/15. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall.
