What’s the Problem

April 17, 2015 - For the second time this year, Whole Foods has issued a recall for macadamia nuts because they may be contaminated with salmonella, a potentially deadly foodborne pathogen. According to an FDA Warning issued today [1], the latest recall affects “Whole Foods Market Raw Macadamia Nuts” packaged in 5.6 oz. plastic tubs with sell-by dates of 4/22/15, 5/4/15 and 5/6/15 and a UPC code of 7-23055-21415-3.

These products were sold at Whole Foods Markets and Harry’s Farmers Market Stores in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. If you have purchased any affected items, you should discard them immediately or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall.

June 25 - Whole Foods has issued a third recall for packaged raw macadamia nuts over potential salmonella contamination, according to an FDA warning issued today [2]. Products affected by the recall were packaged in 11 oz. plastic tubs, and labeled as "Whole Foods Market Raw Macadamia Nuts." The items have best-by dates of Mar. 19, 2016 - Jun. 21, 2016 and the UPC code 0-76958-62059-1. Recalled products were sold in AR, AZ, CA, CO, HI, KS, LA, NM, NV, OK, TX, and UT Whole Foods Market Stores.
