Investigators Diagram Texas Fertilizer Co. for Clues into Deadly Explosion

May 8, 2013 – Nearly a month after the West Fertilizer Company exploded, killing 14 people and seriously injuring close to 200 others, investigators are attempting to retrace the way the facility looked before the blast. Authorities will paint and cordon off lines where the plant’s walls used to be in order to better understand the tragic events that unfolded on April 17. A 93-foot crater is all that’s left of two storage containers that housed hundreds of pounds of ammonium nitrate, the chemical believed to be responsible for the explosion.
