What’s the Problem?

This recall affects WCL Helmets, model Polo, part number 666, in all sizes produced 9/1/14 through 3/16/20, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recalled helmets may not adequately reduce the amount of force the wearer experiences during an impact, NHTSA said. These defective helmets fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard FMVSS 218, “Motorcycle Helmets.”

“In the event of a crash, the helmet may not protect the occupant, increasing the risk of injury,” NHTSA said.

Leather On Wheels is notifying owners and dealers will provide a credit or replace the helmet, free of charge.

This recall began in October 2020.

Be Aware of Unsafe Motorcycle Helmets

While all motorcycle helmets sold in the U.S. are required to meet the federal standard and have the Department of Transportation (DOT) certification label, there are certain retailers who sell “novelty helmets” that do not meet the safety standards required by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). There are also sometimes fake DOT labels on these unsafe helmets.

Novelty helmets are unsafe and will not protect you during a crash. They should not be purchased and should not be worn while operating or riding on a motorcycle. If you are unsure of whether a helmet is unsafe, visit the NHTSA website for tips that can help you identify unsafe helmets.
