Walnuts and Trail Mix Recalled Over Salmonella Risk

Aurora Products Inc., Giant Food Stores, Whole Foods and Martin’s Food Markets are recalling a variety of walnut and trail mix blends because they may be contaminated with salmonella, a potentially deadly foodborne pathogen.

What’s the Problem?

Less than a week after Trader Joe’s recalled raw walnut products over potential salmonella contamination, another recall was announced for “Natural Walnuts” and “Trail Mixes Containing Walnuts” by Aurora Products, Inc. The walnuts and trail mix were distributed nationwide through retail stores, as well as to Canada and Bermuda. If you have purchased any of these products, discard them immediately or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall.

Update: Aurora Adds New Brands to Salmonella Recall

March 27 – Aurora Products Inc. has added dozens of items distributed under 18 brands to the salmonella recall it issued last week, according to an expanded recall notice. The products were distributed throughout U.S., as well as in Canada and Bermuda. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall.

Hines Nut Company Recall

April 17, 2015 – Hines Nut Company of Dallas, TX, today announced a recall for walnut halves and pieces over potential salmonella contamination. Affected products were distributed in Texas via Randalls Food Stores. Click here to learn more.

Salmonella Food Poisoning
