Update: 51 More Lawsuits Filed
July 23, 2018 – USC has been hit with lawsuits from 51 more patients of George Tyndall as board chairman calls for expedited settlements. As more lawsuits pile up against USC for its handling of a campus gynecologist accused of sexually abusing patients, the chair of the university’s board of trustees said he wanted to see the litigation resolved “as quickly as possible.”
What’s the Problem?
June 25, 2018 – In the wake of revelations last month about the alleged misconduct, lawyers fielded hundreds of calls from potential victims of Tyndall, who served as USC’s only full-time campus gynecologist for nearly 30 years. Lawyers say they have been contacted by women alleging crimes by the doctor going all the way back to the start of his tenure at USC, following thru just before he was quietly released in a secret deal with university officials last summer.
The complaints about Tyndall’s inappropriate behavior in the workplace date all the way back to the early 2000’s, when he was accused by co-workers of improperly photographing his patients’ genitals. As the years passed, similar accounts of Tyndall’s “creepy” behavior were reported multiple times by both staff and patients, including touching women inappropriately during pelvic exams and making sexually suggestive comments about their bodies.
More recently, watercooler talk came to a head among allegations that Tyndall wasc targeting USC’s growing sector of Chinese immigrants, many of whom spoke little to no English and had no recourse against his attacks.
Yet through all of the years and complaints against him, Tyndall was allowed to remain at his post until mid-2016, when a frustrated nurse went to the campus rape crisis center, that he was suspended.
