After suffering heart attacks, strokes and other severe cardiovascular health complications, men are beginning to file lawsuits against the makers of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) supplements. A recent study conducted by researchers at the National Cancer Institute determined that men who used TRT products were at least twice as likely to have non-fatal heart attacks in the 90 days after they were first prescribed the drugs compared to men who did not seek treatment.

Testosterone Linked to Cardiovascular Side Effects: Study
According to the new research, which was published in PLOS ONE in January 2014, men who were over the age of 65 had heart attack rates that rose as much as 3-fold in the 90 days after they filled a prescription for a TRT product. This was at least third major study in four years to link testosterone supplements to severe cardiovascular side effects.
In 2010 and then again in November of 2013, research published in the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association found that men who underwent TRT treatment, especially those who were older, frail, or had a pre-existing history of heart disease, faced a greater risk of experiencing a range of cardiovascular ‘events’ soon after they started taking the drugs compared to men who did not take testosterone.
According to researchers, further studies need to be conducted to clarify which TRT users may be more prone to sustaining injuries. Until then, doctors “might be well advised to include serious cardiovascular events in their discussion with patients of potential risks, particularly for men with existing cardiovascular disease.”
What is TRT?
Testosterone replacement therapy is the use of hormone supplements by men who are unable to produce sufficient amounts of testosterone by themselves. This is a common medical condition, and the drugs used to treat it include:
The problems associated with these drugs have continued to mount amid massive demand for testosterone patches, gels and creams, which are currently prescribed to nearly 3% of American men over the age of 40. From 2000 to 2011, prescriptions for TRT supplements increased fivefold, driven in large part by aggressive marketing campaigns which urged men with generalized symptoms to seek treatment for ‘low T.’ Americans are now spending over $1.5 billion on testosterone boosters, a market that is becoming dominated by younger men.
Can I File a TRT Lawsuit?
Only a qualified attorney can determine whether you are eligible to file a lawsuit against the manufacturer of a testosterone supplement, which is why we are currently offering free case evaluations. Simply fill out the confidential evaluation form below to contact our law firm now.
Most cases involving pharmaceuticals allege that a drug was sold with design, manufacturing, and/or marketing defects, which typically refers to a company’s failure to warn of a certain side effect. In the case of testosterone, our attorneys suspect that patients may be able to take legal action in light of claims that manufacturers failed to adequately warn doctors and patients about the risk of cardiovascular side effects.
How Can Filing a Lawsuit Help Me?
By filing a lawsuit against the maker of a testosterone supplement, you may be entitled to collect compensation for all current and future medical expenses related to the treatment of your injury, as well as for damages for pain and suffering. Additionally, filing a lawsuit can help hold the drug’s manufacturer accountable for releasing an allegedly defective drug into the marketplace, and to discourage other pharmaceutical companies from engaging in similar conduct.
