What’s the Problem?
The recalled metformin can be identified by lot # XP9004 and expiration date 12/2020, FDA said. The product was manufactured by Marksans Pharma Limited, India, and distributed nationwide by Farmingdale, New York-based Time-Cap Labs, Inc. to wholesalers who further distributed to pharmacies.
Time-Cap Labs issued the recall after “FDA analysis has found the product to contain N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) levels in excess of the Acceptable Daily Intake Limit (ADI) of 96ng/day.”
Exposure to NDMA in metformin may cause prostate cancer, lower esophageal cancer, non-hodgkin lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma, colon, stomach, intestinal, or pancreatic cancer.
The affected metformin tablets are off white colored, capsule shaped, and debossed with ‘101’ on one side.
Marksans Pharma Limited is notifying its distributors and customers by letter, and is arranging for return/replacement etc. of the recalled product. This recall began on June 2, 2020.
