Texas Star Nut and Food Co. Inc. is recalling Nature’s Eats Natural Macadamia Nuts and Southern Grove Simply Raw Trail Mix because they may be contaminated with salmonella, a bacteria that causes severe foodborne illness.

Which Products are Affected?
According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the following macadamia nut and trail mix products are being recalled over potential salmonella contamination:
- Nature’s Eats Natural Macadamia Nuts 6oz. – Lot Codes: 35897001; 36157001; 37777001 – Best By Dates: 3/6/2016; 3/12/2016; 7/14/2016.
- Southern Grove Simply Raw Trail Mix 8oz. – Lot Codes: 36242004; 37534004; 37409004; 38177004 – Best By Dates: 3/13/2016; 6/26/2016; 7/15/2016; 8/17/2016.
These products were sold between June 20, 2015 and September 9, 2015 to retailers in Texas, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. The recall was issued after routine sampling by the FDA determined that Nature’s Eats Natural Macadamia Nuts contained salmonella bacteria.
Consumers who have purchased any products affected by this recall should not eat them and return them to the manufacturer for a full refund. The company has ceased the distribution of this specific lot of macadamia nuts from the supplier.
Salmonella Infection Symptoms
Salmonella infections can be accompanied by a broad range of illness. The most common clinical presentation is acute gastroenteritis. Symptoms typically include varying degrees of:
- Abdominal cramps
- Fever of 100°F to 102°F
- Bloody diarrhea
- Body aches
