Texas Firm Recalls Ready-to-Eat Meat, Salad, Wraps Over Listeria Contamination

April 12, 2019 – A Houston-based firm has issued a nationwide recall for a variety of ready-to-eat meats, wraps, and salads over concerns the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) warned on Tuesday.

The recalled items were produced between March 27, 2019, and April 8, 2019, and shipped to retail locations throughout Texas, FSIS said. All of the recalled products contain the establishment number “EST. 31680” or “P-31680” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Listeria Symptoms

Listeria infection, or listeriosis, is a foodborne illness that most seriously affects pregnant women and people with compromised immune systems, according to the Mayo Clinic. Signs and symptoms of listeriosis include:

  • Fever
  • Muscle aches
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea

These symptoms typically begin a few days after contaminated food is eaten, but it may take as long as 30 days or more before the first signs and symptoms of infection begin.
