What’s the problem?
This recall affects Tetracycline HCl Capsules USP, 250 mg and 500 mg, 100-count bottles, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
Low dissolution of the affected Tetracycline causes less of the active ingredient to be available in the body to fight infection, FDA said. This can lead to potentially fatal treatment failures in patients with compromised immune systems and the elderly, who may be taking Tetracycline to treat a severe infection such as pneumonia.
The recalled Tetracycline was distributed to wholesalers and distributors across the U.S. from August 2019 to March 2020. Affected products were manufactured by Avet Pharmaceuticals Labs Inc. and distributed under the Heritage Pharmaceuticals Inc. label.
If you are taking any Tetracycline that is affected by this recall, you should contact your physician before discontinuing treatment with the drug. This recall began on April 15, 2020.
