Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) supplements have recently been found to cause severe cardiac complications in some men. Side effects of testosterone have been reported to include heart attack, stroke, pulmonary embolism, blood clots, and sudden death. New research published in the medical journal PLOS ONE found that men who took testosterone boosters were at least twice as likely to have heart attacks within 90 days of beginning treatment than men who did not undergo TRT.

Update: FDA Updates Testosterone Labeling with ‘Addiction and Dependence” Warning
January 18, 2017 – FDA has approved class-wide label changes for all prescription testosterone supplements to include information about a risk of abuse and dependence linked to the products. The new warnings are intended to alert prescribers that some patients may abuse TRT boosters, and that adverse outcomes may result.
Testosterone Linked to Heart Risks
According to the PLOS ONE study, men over 65 had rates of heart attack that increased as much as threefold within three months of filling their first testosterone supplement prescription. The research marks the 3rd time in 4 years that a credible study has concluded that testosterone boosters may present significant health risks.
Two earlier studies found in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) and the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) found that testosterone supplement users – particularly those who were frail, elderly, or who had a history of heart disease – had a heightened risk of experiencing cardiovascular side effects after they began using the supplements.
Popular TRT products include:
Side Effects of Testosterone
Testosterone side effects may include:
Other, less severe side effects of TRT may include:

- Trouble sleeping
- Change in sexual desire
- Redness/swelling of the skin

Testosterone Heart Attack Risk Could be Linked to Calcium, Study Finds
May 5, 2016 – Amid concerns that testosterone supplements could increase the risk of heart attack, a new study published in Scientific Reports suggests that the products may cause calcium buildup in the blood, leading to artery blockage. The researchers examined how testosterone affected blood vessel tissues in mice, finding that it may be the reason for calcium buildup inside the vessels. The calcification was specifically linked to testosterone since the researchers determined that removing the androgen receptors caused less calcium production.
About Testosterone Class Actions
Although we are a nationally recognized class action firm, the Products Liability Litigation Group at our law firm has decided against the filing of a Testosterone Class Action Lawsuit, and is currently filing individual claims on behalf of individuals and/or their family members who have been injured after taking a testosterone booster.
A class action is a type of lawsuit filed with the court on behalf of large group of people or “class” of individuals that have been injured or wronged. The class is represented by the law firm and the case is generally decided upon a single member of the class who is sometimes referred to as the “class representative or class rep.”
Why Our Law Firm Is Filing Individual Lawsuits Opposed To a Class Action
In some instances, a class action may offer some advantages, as they aggregate a large number of individualized claims into one representational lawsuit. The aggregation can increase the efficiency of the legal process, lower the costs of litigation and in some cases offer the solution to a common problem wherein small recoveries do not provide the incentive for any individual or law firm to file an individual lawsuit.
However, a class action suit can also be a detriment to many class members, as they are often forced into a blanket “low ball settlement” and higher attorney fees. At Schmidt & Clark, LLP we understand that our clients are suffering emotionally and economically due to loss of wages and/or high medical bills and we plan to maximize each client’s recovery by filing individual Testosterone Lawsuits on their behalf.
