The lawyers at Schmidt & Clark, LLP, are investigating potential lawsuits for men who suffered a blood clot after using Testim, a testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) drug. A number of recent independently-conducted medical studies have suggested that certain users of testosterone supplements face an increased risk of serious (in some cases life-threatening) cardiovascular problems. Financial compensation may be available through the filing of a Testim Blood Clot Lawsuit as a result of the manufacturers’ failure to adequately warn the public and medical communities about this risk.

What’s the Problem?
Over the past several years, the use of testosterone boosters like Testim has skyrocketed in the U.S., often being prescribed to men with no real medical need. Testosterone is a naturally-occurring hormone involved in maintaining sex drive, muscle mass, bone health and energy. However, testosterone levels start to dip gradually as men approach the age of about 30, and it is widely recognized that for most males this is completely natural and not something that requires medical intervention.
While Testim may be advised for men with an official diagnosis of androgen deficiency, involving standardized symptoms and low levels of naturally-occurring testosterone, drugmakers have participated in aggressive, direct-to-consumer advertising encouraging men to seek treatment, knowing that the risks may outweigh the benefits for the vast majority of users.
Testosterone Blood Clot Studies
In November of 2013, a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association determined that males with a history of heart disease may be nearly 30% more likely to suffer a heart attack, stroke or blood clot after using Testim or other testosterone booster. The JAMA study confirmed long-standing concerns over the heart risks associated with testosterone replacement therapy. In 2009, researchers stopped a study that was funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) after patients treated with testosterone began suffering heart attacks. The study involved 200 older men with a high prevalence of heart problems. Test subjects receiving testosterone supplementation were found to have a significant increase in the rate of heart attack, leading researchers to halt the study prematurely.
Testim Blood Clot Treatment
Treatment for blood clots caused by Testim can take many forms. Anticoagulant drugs such as heparin and warfarin are often prescribed to stop the formation and growth of existing clots. These medicines slow the time it takes for blood to clot and can prevent further clotting from occurring. However, heparin and warfarin may cause uncomfortable and sometimes serious side effects, as well as the need for periodic blood tests.
