Due to the risk of severe anaphylactic reactions and other adverse side effects, the FDA has required chemotherapy drug Taxol® (Paclitaxel) to carry a Black Box warning.
Taxol currently carries a Black Box warning of the risk for anaphylactic reactions, some of which can be fatal. Patients who have severe reactions to Taxol may have shortness of breath, low blood pressure, skin swelling, and hives. Additionally, Taxol carries a warning of the risk for a large decrease in white blood cells leaving a patient susceptible to infection. Your doctor should monitor your white blood cell count closely during treatment and should suspend treatment if you begin to develop any signs of infection.
