Talcum Powder Lawsuits Illinois | Get the Right Lawyer

Since 1971, more than 20 studies have linked talc powder to ovarian cancer, and, in 2003, an analysis of 16 of these studies found that women using talcum powder were 33% more likely to develop ovarian cancer. It has been alleged that Johnson & Johnson knew about the ovarian cancer risk since at least 1982, but failed to warn women using these products.

Johnson & Johnson Knew About Asbestos in its Baby Powder: Reuters

Facing thousands of lawsuits in Illinois and elsewhere alleging that its talcum powder increased the risk of ovarian cancer, Johnson & Johnson insists on the safety and purity of its iconic product.

But internal documents examined by Reuters show that the company knew its baby powder had the potential to be tainted with carcinogenic asbestos and that Johnson & Johnson kept that information from regulators and the public.

The Reuters examination found that from at least 1971 to the early 2000s, Johnson & Johnson raw talc and finished powders sometimes tested positive for small amounts of asbestos, and that American Association executives, mine managers, scientists, doctors and lawyers in many practice areas fretted over the problem and how to address it while failing to disclose it to many women in Illinois and elsewhere.

The documents also depict successful efforts to influence U.S. regulators’ plans to limit asbestos in cosmetic talc products and scientific research on the health effects of talc.

Warning

New Warning Labels Were Evidence in $417 Talcum Powder Ovarian Cancer Lawsuit

Jurors in Los Angeles who returned a $417 million verdict against Johnson & Johnson in a talcum powder ovarian cancer case were the first to hear evidence that other talcum powder sellers now warn consumers that genital use of talcum powder may increase ovarian cancer risks.

Johnson & Johnson has failed to warn consumers on its Johnson’s Baby Powder, which contains talcum powder and has been the focus in multiple trials.

Medical studies dating back more than three decades have found an association between genital application of talcum powder and ovarian cancer.

In this case, jurors saw labels from Angel of Mine Baby Powder, which is available at Dollar Tree stores, and Spring Fresh Powder, which is available at Walmart, with the following warnings, respectively:

“Frequent application of talcum powder in the female genital area may increase the risk that users develop an ovarian cancer diagnosis.”

“Medical evidence suggests that women who use talcum powder and other similar cosmetic products as a personal hygiene product run an increased risk of developing ovarian cancer.”

What Compensation Could I Be Awarded in a Baby Powder Lawsuit?

If you’ve developed an increased risk for mesothelioma, ovarian cancer, or another form of cancer due to the use of talcum powder or other similar dangerous products for feminine hygiene / personal hygiene, you have the right to win compensation through the filing of a talcum powder lawsuit.

Women across the United States have been awarded hundreds of millions of dollars for the personal injury they’ve suffered due to their cancer diagnosis from cosmetic talc particles, and you could be entitled to significant compensation yourself.

When you file a talcum powder lawsuit, you could be eligible to recover compensation for:

  • Medical expenses and future treatment
  • Lost wages
  • Loss of future earnings
  • Pain, suffering, and mental anguish
  • Corporate negligence

While your talc powder attorney will seek fair compensation that takes into account the wide-ranging financial and emotional impact that your ovarian cancer has had and will have on your family, a jury might also decide to award punitive damages to punish Johnson & Johnson or other manufacturers for failing to warn about the risk of ovarian cancer from talc products.
