Update: Specialized Expands Recall of Sirrus Bikes Over Fall, Injury Hazards
Specialized Bicycle Components Inc. issued an expanded recall for about 19,000 Sirrus, Sirrus X, and Sirrus Sports Bicycles with alloy cranks [2.] over concerns that the crank arm can disengage and cause the bicycle’s rider to lose control, posing fall and injury hazards. Models included in the expanded recall are:

“Specialized Bicycle Components has received 30 reports involving the crank arm disengaging on model year 2021 or 2022 Sirrus X 3.0 and 4.0 bicycles,” CPSC said. “No injuries have been reported.”
This expanded recall began on March 16, 2022.
The CPSC Recall Number for this recall is 22-100.

What’s the Problem?
According to the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC)[1], this recall affects:
- 2019 Specialized Sirrus Sport (incl. EQ and Step-Through versions)
- 2019 Specialized Sirrus X Comp Carbon
- 2020 Specialized Sirrus 3.0
- 2020 Specialized Sirrus 4.0
- 2020 Specialized Sirrus X 3.0
- 2020 Specialized Sirrus X 4.0
- 2020 Specialized Sirrus X 5.0
“The firm has received 56 reports of crank arm disengaging, including seven reports of injuries,” CPSC said. “One injury involved a torn bicep tendon and the other six were minor injuries, such as road rash.”

The recalled bikes were sold at authorized Specialized retailers nationwide and online from September 2018 through June 2020 for between $850 and $1,700. If you purchased a bicycle that is affected by this recall, you should stop using it immediately and contact your local Specialized retailer for a free repair.
This recall began on September 23, 2020.
