Snapchill Coffee Recall Lawsuit (Latest Updates)

Green Bay, Wisconsin-based Snapchill LLC is recalling all of its canned coffee products because they may have the potential to be contaminated with botulinum toxin, a highly toxic bacteria that causes botulism food poisoning, whose symptoms include “general weakness, dizziness, double-vision and trouble with speaking or swallowing,” according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Which Snapchill Coffee Products are Subject to Recall?

According to an FDA Recall Letter [1], this action affects Snapchill Coffee products sold under a range of roaster and brand names, in a variety of metal can sizes ranging from 7 oz to 12 oz. The recalled coffee is identifiable by the words, “Produced and distributed by Snapchill LLC” underneath the nutrition facts panel. Some of the products can also be identified by the text “Snapchill Coffee” on the label, FDA said. Why was the Coffee Recall Initiated?

Snapchill ordered this recall after it was found that the company’s “… current process could lead to the growth and production of the deadly toxin, botulinum toxin, in low acid canned foods,” according to the FDA.

The problem was identified when the FDA notified Snapchill that the low-acid canned foods process for manufacturing the recalled products was not filed with the agency, as is required by law. Snapchill is working on filing the appropriate notification with the FDA.

This recall began on June 17, 2024.

What is Botulism?

Botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, can cause the following symptoms: general weakness, dizziness, double-vision, and trouble with speaking or swallowing, the FDA said. Difficulty in breathing, weakness of other muscles, abdominal distension, and constipation may also be common symptoms. Symptoms can begin from six hours to two weeks after eating food that contains botulinum toxin. People experiencing these problems should seek immediate medical attention.

FDA Recommendation

If you purchased any Snapchill Coffee that is affected by this recall, you should not drink it, and either discard it immediately or return it to the point of purchase for a refund. Anyone concerned about a potential botulism food poisoning illness should contact their healthcare provider or dial 9-1-1 immediately.
