The problem is that the aluminum hardware supporting the shower seat can corrode, posing fall and laceration hazards, according to a recall notice issued Tuesday by the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC). Signature Hardware has received at least 194 reports of the shower seats breaking, including 37 reports of falls without injuries and 23 reports of injuries (lacerations requiring stitches, lumbar fractures, scrapes, bruises.

What’s the problem?
The recalled shower seats were sold via phone order and over the Internet from Jan. 2011-July 2018 for between $150 and $160. A limited number of the seats were also sold by Barclay Products Ltd. through its showroom in Gurnee, Illinois, between October 2013 and June 2017 for around the same price. If you purchased a shower seat that is affected by this recall, you should stop using it immediately and contact Signature Hardware for instructions on how to replace it or get a refund.
