What's the Problem?
According to the CPSC Recall Notice [1], this action affects alloy versions of Rocky Mountain model years 2018-2020 Instinct, Instinct BC and Pipeline trail bikes. These bicycles were manufactured with front frame triangles that can crack and cause separation of the head tube from the frame, posing fall and injury hazards, CPSC said.
The recalled bikes are equipped with 29 inch and 27.5+ inch wheels. The words "Rocky Mountain" are printed on the downtube, and "Instinct," "Instinct BC" or "Pipeline" are printed inside the seatstay on the left hand side.
Affected bicycles were sold at independent bicycle stores nationwide from August 2017 through June 2020 for between $2,600 and $4,700. Click on the CPSC Recall Notice to view a complete list of models and serial numbers affected.
If you purchased a bike that is affected by this recall, you should stop using it immediately and contact Rocky Mountain for information on how to receive a free replacement front triangle.
This recall began on July 16, 2020.
