RAM Truck Class Action Lawsuit

A class action lawsuit filed in March 2023 alleges that FCA US and Stellantis manufactured and sold model year 2017-2018 Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 pickup trucks containing “dangerous and defective” hydraulic control units and anti-lock braking systems.

Plaintiff James Neu alleges these defects cause the vehicles’ hydraulic control units and anti-lock braking systems to become inoperable, making the trucks more difficult to control.

“Driving the Vehicles become especially dangerous in already dangerous road conditions, such as when the road is wet or snowy, as braking becomes much more difficult,” the class action states.

Furthermore, Plaintiff argues that the defendants either knew or should have known about the alleged defects before marketing the Ram trucks to consumers, citing evidence from a Technical Service Bulletin regarding the defects.

“Defendants perform rigorous pre-sale testing and received numerous consumer complaints relating to the Defect,” the FCA class action states.

RAM 1500 Recalled for Brake Pedal Defect, Crash Risk

Chrysler is recalling model year 2021 Ram 1500 Classic SLT trucks which were built without the retaining clip that secures the master cylinder push rod to the brake pedal, which can cause the brake pedal to separate from the brake system. “A separated brake pedal can result in the driver being unable to apply the service brakes, increasing the risk of a crash,” NHTSA said. Chrysler is notifying owners and dealers will inspect and install the push rod clip, free of charge. This recall began on February 9, 2021.

RAM Truck Transfer Case Recall

Chrysler is recalling certain RAM pickup trucks over a potential defect in the transfer case which could cause the vehicle to become stuck in neutral, increasing the risk of a crash and severe injuries, including death.

This recall affects 2019 Ram 1500 pickup trucks equipped with four-wheel drive, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

A gear within the transfer case of affected vehicles may not have been installed correctly, potentially causing the truck to become stuck in neutral, NHTSA said. If this occurs while driving, there could be a sudden loss of power.

The problem may also cause a loss of ‘PARK’ function in the recalled RAM pickups. A sudden loss of power or a loss of ‘PARK’ function may increase the risk of a crash, according to the NHTSA.

Chrysler is notifying owners and dealers will replace the transfer case, if necessary, for free. This recall began on March 10, 2020.

RAM Truck Bed Step Recall

Chrysler is recalling 2019-2020 Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 Pick-up trucks equipped with an accessory bed step which may unexpectedly fail during certain side loading conditions. A bed step that fails while in use increases the risk of injury to the user. This recall began on May 29, 2020.
